Any non profit organization knows that volunteers are their lifeblood. However, it can be difficult to recruit, train and maintain a relationship with volunteers.
The first step in creating a great volunteer program is clearly defining what needs to be done. If you can outline a simple program and give each person a definable role to play, things happen smoothly.
The second step it to reward your volunteers. This can be done via an annual event paid for by sponsors, or it can be as simple as asking a sponsor to donate a gift certificate.
The third step is to have a great line of communication with your volunteers. Let then know how their efforts are helping the organization as a whole. Make sure they are on the newsletter list and send out a quarterly letter to each individual.
Volunteers are special – lets make sure we treat them that way!
